My thoughts on “So Soft Fine Glitter” from DecoArt

Posted on: December 7th, 2011 by patty | Posted in Painter Patty | No Comments »

DecoArt So Soft Fine GlitterWhen DecoArt introduced this line of paints called So Soft Fine Glitter, I kinda did a little eye roll… I have alot of paint and alot of glitter and
I don’t do much fabric painting in my world of Decorative Painting..  Sooo….. I pushed it aside.

Then while I was at Hoot (Heart of Ohio Tole Convention) a lovely artist named Debra Welty had some T-shirts she had painted
that had the BEST sparkle to them.. low chunk gorgeous GLAM! And after I asked permission to touch  the shirt I saw that it doesn’t come off..

This was amazing.. so I took some out last week… played around with them… The So Soft Fine Glitter is glitter suspended in a paint and medium,
it stays flexible like the So Soft paints do and  you can layer them over painted surfaces… One coat gives you a little sparkle a few coats.. MAGIC!
Sometimes you need  ”GLITTER” and sometimes you need sparkle… I love that if you do wash this the product doesn’t come off and it won’t shed like some glitters do.

Hands down I am a fan and am making excuses to use these great products, How would the Dog look with some So Soft Fine Glitter on his curly coat? LOL>..

Painting Stepping Stones for your Garden

Posted on: March 2nd, 2011 by admin | Posted in Everyday Patty | No Comments »

Last Year I have to say… I was skeptical…
How would Patio Paints hold up in extreme outdoor weather?
Deco Art said they would… But how good were they REALLY?

So here is what I did, I painted 4 Stepping stones…
4 “flutterbies” for my Butterfly garden!

Gave them 1 coat of varnish and left them out in 3 months of 100 degree
straight sunshine and heat (We had record sun and heat last year) an entire
Fall and also this Winter – which was pretty harsh for SE Ohio – plenty of snow and deep freezing temps.

My report….
The colors are still BRILLIANT!
No Chipping
No Cracking
No Peeling
AWESOME!

Deco Art patio Paints Rock!

Cards made with Stamps and Zentangles® and Micron Pens

CHA 2011

CHA 2011

Just home from Sunny California,
it was so nice and WARM…Ahhh…

As we flew home we missed the”storm of the century” that many of
you are being inundated with as I type… happy to have been spared
that stress while traveling!
(pssst.  I do write every newsletter that you receive, just
sometimes I am writing in airplanes,or in hotels!) Today I am
happily at HOME!

Our best WARM wishes to those who are being buried in snow and ice.

CHA is the Craft and Hobby Association
It is the Worlds biggest convention all centered around CRAFTS…
You’d think it would be all warm and fuzzy but there are more
“SUITS” running around and most have very serious faces. CRAFTS is
big business!

This is where the BIG stores buy,
This is where BIG companies release new products…
This is where you can see TRENDS and HOT items…
It is THE place to be if you are at all serious about Arts and
Crafts!

We marched around non-stop for two days to see it all…
talking to vendors, grilling manufacturers… getting excited about
new products!

I travel to many different shows to find the best and most exciting
products for our customers and painting buddies! CHA is only one of
them but a VERY important ONE…

Here are what I saw as very important emerging TRENDS and NEW stuff
CHA Part 1
(too much to put in 1 email)

Colors:
Feminine is in!
Soft green was the color of the show paired with cream, it is
soothing and innocent.
And that awesome bright Raspberry Pink color paired with Brown is
AWESOME!
(I happen to look good in this color and have been noticing that it
has been permeating the garment world as well! I am stocking up…
shhh don’t tell Ted… LOL)

Common Themes:

Bird Cages where EVERYWHERE  and I do mean EVERYWHERE!
You know the old fashion dome topped cages? Those were practically
in every booth…
On stamps, packaging, stencils, artwork, scrapbook paper, fabric
and they were used
extensively as props to decorate booths.

HOT Products:

Zentangle® is the darling of the day…
It is the “I CAN DO THAT”,creativity building ZEN/brain experience,
we all seem to be craving!

http://www.creativeartslifestyle.com/categories/Zentangle%C2%AE-/Zentangle%C2%AE-Books/

The Books that we introduced you to last month are BEST SELLERS…
and  3 NEW TITLES were just Intoduced at CHA!

Be the first to Check ‘em out

You’ll want them all… when you start seeing what you can do with
this style of art your gonna be an addict! IT’s FUN Cheap and EASY!

And the Micron Pens are enjoying a FUN and fabulous ride
as the PEN of choice for Zentang-ologists (tee hee) (love to create
new words)
because of their vibrancy and non-bleed tendency.
These pens are the same ones we Decorative Artists have been using
to do line work on our projects instead of futzing with a liner
brush.

(remember to mist with spray varnish if you are going to use
varnish to finish)

We tested other pens and none compared… We were actually so
impressed we brought in the entire line of these wonderful pens,
they run from very fine to thick (for filling in areas)

We even brought a few pads of White Post It’s® and our Pigma pens
on the plane.
I wish I would have thought of this when I was raising my children
- it’s quick ,it’s easy, it’s affordable, it’s portable, and it’s
FUN!
Adults love it, kids love it…
even my husband thinks it’s cool!

Watch the short video if you don’t know what Zentangle® is.
Giselle Pope introduced me to this creativity building activity
last year…
Thanks Giselle!

I have more to share.. but it’s a lot for 1 post and I have some
emails to catch up with… watch for CHA part 2  in a day or so!

Happy to be home..
but in California  they had leaves on trees and flowers on shrubs
and a big yellow thing in the sky called sunshine!
(I came home to liquid sunshine)(better than fluffy sunshine)
(SMILE)

Some Heart/Miracle Humor

Posted on: December 29th, 2010 by admin | Posted in Everyday Patty, Spiritually Patty | 3 Comments »

I wanted to share some of the humor that pulled us all through this event…

Don’t get me wrong,  I cried for two days straight during Ted’s first visit…
But there were some fairly funny moments…

The night in the ER, Ted is in shock and I am doing everything in my control to keep his feet warm and not fall to pieces myself.
Just minutes before they wheeled him off to the Cathe lab, he says in a weak voice
“Patricia, do you have a paper and pencil”?
(OMG) really… visions of last words, regrets or hidden treasure all popped into my brain..
I dig my sketch book out of my purse… I lean in… sniffing.. “Yes honey”?

Pause… deep thoughtful look on his face
then he speaks:
“This… (throat clears) This is… How you…  pay… Payroll… ”

Oh, for pity’s sake!!!!

“No,” he says… “It’s tougher than you’d think, write this down…”

Now I can tell you that at that moment I should have realized he was going to be fine…
But I sure as heck wanted to whack him! LOL…

Then…

They put me in a special waiting room… it’s dark… it’s 4:00 AM…
I am bawling… ALONE… reading the Bible… blowing my nose…
I am there for 30 minutes (the longest 30 min of my life)…
And I hear…

Clank?

Clatter?
Then, a ROAR… “HOLY SH_T!!”
That’s my husband… with that one “bellow” I THANKFULLY put down the Bible and the tissues…
Ted was ALIVE… and swearing! YES!! All things are normal LOL…

Turns out the nurse had lost control of the IV stand and the NITRO (glass bottle) whacked him right on the cheek bone.
He had a golf ball sized shiner and because of the blood thinners, it was an ugly mess.
When he saw himself in the mirror days later he bellowed the same statement! LOL

Later when we went back in for the second procedure, he brought in ski goggles for protection.
The same Nurse was on duty and has taken so much ribbing!

The joke here in town is that if he doesn’t straighten out, Patty’ll whack the other eye!

Enjoy each day!

My 6′ Tall Christmas Miracle

Posted on: December 23rd, 2010 by admin | Posted in Everyday Patty | 19 Comments »

My Christmas Miracle!

2 weeks ago my husband Ted was experiencing some unusual indigestion…

(Ah ha… Some of you might already know how this story will proceed. )

After a few episodes over several days, I convinced him to trek to the ER just to make sure it wasn’t anything serious.

They admitted him because he had a few more indigestion episodes while in the ER.  Two days of tests later,  we left to come back home… the blood work, ekg’s etc all showed his heart as fine, so the doctors said it must be indigestion.

2:30 that night it attacked again. Ted was arguing that it would pass, but was agitated and  his forehead was cold and clammy. I shoved him into clothes
(how I did this I have no idea, he is quite tall and was really against another hospital visit!)

When we arrived at the hospital  he was in shock and had had a Heart Attack. Within 30 minutes the Heart Team at our small local hospital had him in and out of a successful “stent” procedure, his carotid artery was 100% blocked and 4 more arteries were 60-90 % blocked

They were able to stent the carotid artery and bring it back. This was a Miracle, they call this artery the “Widow Maker”…  50% don’t ever even live through it to arrive at the hospital!

Tuesday this week he had two more stents put in and is now home recovering.

The wisdom that I can share from this is:

  • It is better to go visit the doctor than go to ER.
  • It is better to go to ER than to have a heart attack.
  • If your husband/wife argues that his/her cholesterol numbers make an “okay” ratio even though they are considered high, insist they get at least a non-invasive “Stress Test” or if warranted a more  invasive  “Heart Cathe”.
  • Insist on looking at the blood tests during a hospital stay and make your physician explain them to you. The general consensus is there were indicators in the blood work that were dismissed during our first trip.
  • Get together for family reunions before bad problems arise. It had been 11 years since we had our sons ALL TOGETHER and they rallied awesomely around their Dad, but we all would have enjoyed it more without the stress and fear of illness or worse!
  • Texting news like this is easier to do in a waiting room at 4:30 am with sleeping families all around you than calling, and it was amazing to get so much support all at once while waiting… AND  for those first two days I couldn’t look at anyone and tell them this news without sobbing!
  • Bring your own tissues. The ones at the hospital are made of sand paper, and your nose and eyes will pay! LOL..

Appreciate every sound, sight and joy you have in your life… you just truly might not get the chance to experience it again!

Merry Merry Christmas!

Patty

PS..

THANK GOODNESS we have such a great team here to help take care of things while we have been dealing with the turmoil! You guys ROCK!

I would appreciate hearing about others experiences and I will be sharing recipes and other lifestyle change ideas as we learn them…

Server Switch

Posted on: September 8th, 2010 by admin | Posted in Everyday Patty | 1 Comment »

Hi! We just changed servers for our “Bonus Features” – things like the blog, and the portal page – so it’ll take us a few days to get things back to normal here. Don’t worry, the store, Tole TV, and the Newsletter haven’t been effected at all!

Happy painting, and we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled blogging soon ;)
