A restaurant space just steps from Jersey City’s Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza is set to turn the lights on once again as the fusion-minded Kat Khao will be hosting a tasting event in the coming days in preparation for their full launch.
The eatery, which promises a blend of Vietnamese and Japanese cuisines, will be ramping up on Friday at 527 Jersey Avenue. The storefront was previously occupied by local favorite Pasta dal Cuore, which closed in early 2024.
Kat Khao’s menu promises reimagined street food and home-style dishes from Vietnam infused with the elegance and precision of Japanese culinary technique. While a full menu has yet to be released, their recently launched website hints at dishes from bánh xèo okonomiyaki to wagyu phở or and grilled chilean sea bass chả cá.

In anticipation of the full launch, Kat Khao will be hosting a “first taste” on May 16 and 17. The two-hour preview can be booked for $80 a person and includes four courses of what’s coming soon to the restaurant.
Highlights from the preview menu include a beef tataki that blends the beef with bò tái chanh, while their chilean sea bass chả cá is marinated in turmeric and dill for a refined take on Hanoi’s iconic flavor.
The restaurant’s preview tasting is a BYOB affair, and the restaurant will continue to allow diners to bring their own libations when fully operational. An exact full opening date has not yet been announced, the Kat Khao can be followed on Instagram for further updates at the handle @katkhaojc.
