A major expansion at Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital is underway in Camden. The groundbreaking kicks off a new chapter for the facility, located on Haddon Avenue and Vesper Boulevard. Costing $500 million, the project is part of Virtua’s ongoing “Advancing Well” reinvestment campaign.
The overall plan comprises a 254,000-square-foot, six-story tower that will provide 78 private rooms, state-of-the-art operating rooms for organ transplants, as well as acute neurosurgical and cardiac procedures, along with a new, expanded helipad. The project will include a significant revamp to the upper floors of an existing pavilion on the Camden hospital’s campus to accommodate the helipad.
O’Donnell & Naccarato is providing structural engineering for the expansion, as well as an assessment of the façade and other renovations to the hospital. O&N has worked extensively with Our Lady of Lourdes, implementing restoration services and facade upgrades across the campus.
Additional partners on the project include Array Architects, mechanical engineering firm TLC Engineering Solutions, Vivid Project Management, civil engineers Taylor Wiseman & Taylor, geotechnical engineering consultant Haley Aldrich, and contractor L.F. Driscoll Company.
“O&N is proud to partner with Our Lady of Lourdes on this transformative expansion in the heart of Camden,” said Michael Herrmann, Vice President. “The project will ensure that South Jersey residents have access to the best acute healthcare services in updated, modern facilities that reflect Virtua’s deep commitment to improving outcomes throughout the region.”
Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital first opened in 1950 and became part of Virtua Health in 2019. The facility is known for the iconic 15-ton, 30-foot limestone statue atop the building, which is visible throughout Camden.
