An insurance firm has taken the biggest chunk of space under several new deals that will bring new companies to a prominent tower along the Jersey City waterfront.

Brokerage firm CBRE has announced several new tenants that are moving into the Newport Office Center III, a 15-story commercial tower along Washington Boulevard. Berkley Insurance has taken the biggest of those deals, signing on to take over nearly 34,000 square feet of office space on the property’s ninth floor.

The commercial lines property and casualty insurer is leasing the space from owner LeFrak, with Meredith Jackness, Ray Kawas, and Tim Johnson brokering the deal alongside CBRE.

Other new leases CBRE secured at the property include 6,200 square feet to BPCE Equipment Solutions, a provider of industrial equipment lease financing. Another 3,005 square feet is being taken by Democracy Docket, a voting rights and media platform that tracks election litigation.

The two other tenants set to call the property home under lease agreements include Kaya Tech, an enterprise AI platform, and Playstar, an online gaming platform that is renewing their contract.

“We are thrilled to have completed a number of new leases at two of the most prominent business addresses in Jersey City,” said CBRA’s Howard Fiddle in a statement. “Newport continues to serve the needs of a wide range of industry-leading firms and these occupiers were attracted by the stable hands-on ownership and incredible location in the heart of the Jersey City waterfront.”

The tenants are among the many companies that lease offices along the Hudson River, with the master-planned Newport neighborhood remaining a popular destination. The Harborside complex has also started to regain traction as an office center, with a 130,000-square-foot office lease deal from 2022 setting a recent record.
