An Australian-based company that has expanded greatly in the New York City region during recent years has their sights set on Hoboken as Aesop looks to arrive in the Mile Square City later this year.
The brand will be setting up shop at 407 Washington Street, a historic property that has recently undergone a top-to-bottom renovation to restore its luster. Aesop will be operating out of the ground floor of the property, which spans about 1,100 square feet.
Founded in 1987 by Dennis Paphitis, Aesop has evolved from a small salon in Melbourne to a globally renowned luxury skincare brand. The company offers a range of skin, hair, and body care formulations, many of which use plant-based and laboratory-made ingredients from reputable suppliers.

Since L’Oréal’s acquisition of the company in August 2023, Aesop has accelerated its U.S. footprint by opening multiple stores in New York City. The brand operates New Jersey outposts inside the Short Hills Mall and the Garden State Plaza in Paramus.
Aesop typically integrates the local character into its retail design at their stores and is known for their sleek interiors. There’s no word on exactly when Aesop will be making its debut in Hoboken, but work continues at the site, and job postings for the location emerged in late April.
